Warwick – Coastline, History and Easy Rhode Island Travel

Warwick is one of those destinations that becomes more useful the longer you look at a map of Rhode Island. Located south of Providence with a long shoreline along Narragansett Bay, it combines residential neighborhoods, historic areas, waterfront scenery and some of the state’s most convenient transport connections.

Discover the shoreline

Rhode Island calls itself the Ocean State, and Warwick gives you plenty of opportunities to understand why. Parks and coastal areas provide views across Narragansett Bay, while smaller coves and inlets give parts of the city a surprisingly maritime feel.

Visit Pawtuxet Village

Historic Pawtuxet Village straddles the Warwick-Cranston boundary and is worth including in any visit to the area. Its older buildings, waterfront setting and small businesses offer a much more intimate atmosphere than the commercial districts nearby.

A practical base

Warwick is home to Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport, making it a natural arrival point for many visitors. Its central position also makes it practical for exploring Providence, Narragansett Bay and destinations farther south.

If you are travelling by car, staying here can work particularly well when your itinerary covers several different parts of Rhode Island.

Do not judge it from the highway

Much of Warwick’s commercial development is easy to see from major roads, but that is only one side of the city. Leave the shopping corridors and explore the older neighborhoods and waterfront.

Warwick is not Rhode Island’s most famous destination, but it can be one of its most convenient – and its quieter coastal corners are well worth finding.
